A Tribute To My Grandparents

The coming Christmas holidays has me thinking about my grandparents. As most kids do, I think I have the greatest that ever walked the face of the earth. See my story is different. My grandparents basically raised me. To them I am thankful for the person I turned out to be. I won't bore you with the details of how it came to be but when my grandfather was 50 years old he took me on as one of his own. My grandfather was a mechanic by trade and he also pastored a church until shortly after I married in 1980. My grandmother worked as well in retail. But one of the things remember most about her was her love of sewing. She was never a great seamstress but she could do her thing. As years passed and my oldest daughter got in school her abilities to sew became less and less, although she still tried. This year I've kinda been focusing on the homemade gifts. The gifts made with our hands, with our love. My grandmother use to sew a tag in all her clothes, made with love by Bea. And thats what it was, her love.So if you recieve a homemade gift from me this year know that it was done with much love and reflection for simpler days gone by. I have many thing in my home that belonged to them and I cherish each and everything. Right down to the smallest button. Ad so it was that I wondered what I could do with a gallon ziploc bag full of grandma's butons. And here is what I decided to do:

A 9" floral wire and stared stringing

It took a while but I got them strung and knotted the ends together

Tied a blue ribbon on it

And presto-A Christmas tree ornament that I think looks gorgeous and I'll have for years to come. I was able to make 4 and will pass each one of my kids one later in life.

Do you guys remember these? I want to seal these in something so they don't dry up and blow away and then somehow make a display with some of the things I have and their pictures

My grandmother at a very tender 16. I thought, and still do, that she was beautiful

My grandfather serving in the reserves. I believe they had married at this point

This is how they will forever remain in my mind even though time has taken its toll not only on their appearance but also on their minds. They will never know how grateful I am to them for what they did for me and how very much I love them!
